About the Research Group

The Apiology group studies honey bees in their natural environment with minimal human intervention. Such bees, unlike apiary ones, are highly resistant both to external adverse conditions of existence, and to diseases and pests. An important task of the group is to search for genomic signatures of subspecies of western (Apis mellifera L.) and eastern (Apis cerana Fabr.) honey bees. Together with the Association of Natural Beekeeping, we are engaged in the conservation of almost lost native subspecies of honey bees in Russia. Much attention is paid to the study of the molecular basis of the coevolution of bees and flowering plants, bees and the Varroa destructor mite, bees and the wing deformation virus.
