Andrey Vasiliev is the author of 130 scientific papers and 18 patents. Dr. Vasiliev is a specialist in the cellular mechanisms underlying development and regeneration, tissue engineering and cell technologies. He has studied proliferation and differentiation of epithelial stem cells, pluripotent cells, cellular mechanisms providing induction of regeneration, mechanisms of epithelio-mesenchymal transition and intercellular interactions. He created tissue equivalents of a number of tissues and organs (equivalent of skin, urethra, cornea, cartilage tissue). He has established the methods of structural and functional restoration of tissues and organs by transplantation of tissue-engineered constructs.

Since 2014, Dr. Vasiliev is a Head of the Department of Embryology (Faculty of Biology, Lomonosov Moscow State University). He gives lectures of the course "Cellular mechanisms of development and regeneration" for MSU students.

Since 2019, Dr. Vasiliev is an Editor-in-Chief of the journal Ontogenez / Russian Journal of Developmental Biology.
